The Future of Robotics : Assistants or  Replacements ?

Emily Arévalo

It is predicted that robots will replace a greater number of human workers in the future. This essay will first discuss the professions that are susceptible to automation and will then outline how robots can eventually benefit society. According to scientists, automation is expected to affect manual labour the most. This is because jobs that involve manipulating small objects can be easily performed by robots. A recent study from the Ministry of Works claimed that by the year 2030 one-third of the existing jobs will have disappeared due to machines programmed by artificial intelligence. In recent years, we have witnessed robots and machines replacing many jobs that used to be done by people. The questions on everyone’s mind are when will it stop, will robots replace humans in everything, what jobs will be left?  As technology continues to progress, robots are becoming cleverer than people and computers learn to perform tasks with greater efficiency than us, it is worrying to think that one day robots will be in every work place and there will be less and less jobs available for people.

However, certain experts with superior mental dexterity skills will be still needed, such as dentists. Although various blue-collar jobs might be threatened by automation, robots are likely to bring tremendous benefits to our lives. Robots can do repetitive and monotone tasks efficiently and errorlessly. According to a survey carried out in the Department of Computer Sciences, job tasks like answering the phone or filling in a patient form could be done by robots. As a result, cognitive labour, such as lawyers and doctors, can concentrate on more demanding tasks, which require analytic thinking and research skills. Machines can now do both of these tasks, with robots developed that can drive cars safely, which could mean job losses in the future for bus and taxi drivers. For years now machines have slowly been taking over the role of building cars, in every company and every factory.

There are now less people employed in the retail and bank industries, as self-serve machines and ATMs mean that customers can do most task themselves on these, and fewer employees are needed. This is the same for pharmacies, where some are now using robots instead of people to fill in prescriptions. There is even software now that can generate stories and articles, which means less work for writers and reporters, and software that can review documents that would have previously been analyzed by lawyers. Machines can now do a lot of human tasks, with even robot astronauts being developed by NASA. Soldiers are also slowing being replaced, first by drones and also with robot soldiers being developed, though this may be seen as an advantage to many as it will save lives.

There are now over 1.2 million industrial machines and robots working across the globe, and will grow as technology advances. However there are many fields in which humans will not be able to be replaced, like artistic jobs that use our creativity and imagination, something that computers are not able to reach and places such as hospitals. Whilst there are now robots that are performing surgery, not all tasks in a hospital can be undertaken by robots. They may have steadier hands, but aren’t capable of connecting on a human level with patients.

Thus, it can be argued that this development is chiefly positive. In conclusion, I would argue that although some manual vacancies are at risk to disappear, the advantages of automation overweigh disadvantages. Computers bring many benefits for companies, who make fewer mistakes, save money and work faster and more precisely. This is why many businesses in all fields are beginning to use more machines. Robots are unable to show compassion like people do and should never be able to replace us when it comes to human interaction. Robots can reliably handle many manual tasks that humans usually consider mundane and uninteresting.

 Change for humanity

Technology is no longer a secondary thing, but an essential part of our lives.  As we are progressing, the creation of new technologies are introduced in society every year.  One of them are robots, there are different types: medical, disaster response, industrial and underwater.  Some may say that it will be a bad future if we are dominated by them, but in reality, they can be useful to people who risk their lives in the different jobs.

Some people are scared to be involved in a world with robots, but even though It can be because it is unknown, and humans feel the need to take control of all things. However, we should be more open-minded as they will be helpful in the future on things that humans thought impossible.  Robots are being developed by scientist, and there are various types.

On one side there are robots in the heavy Industries have more precision than humans on doing dangerous jobs in construction sites, in the manufacture field and more things that now humans aren’t needed as machines are faster and more effective. Another one to mention are the ones of Disaster response, these are in charge of seeing the situation from a deeper level, for example, there are developing a robotic spider, that is capable of identifying how many survivors are trapped.  And another one to mention is medical robots, they can be a subject of experiments, like for example to see if a product it is safe for humans (cars, planes, etc.), not only that but can perform surgeries.

Only a few were mentioned but we can’t deny the positive change that science is doing for our future and we can’t hide the excitement to see how the human kind reduces the problems of today.

Robotical Helpers

In 1954, George Devol brought to life a project that would have an everlasting impact.  Devol built and sold the first commercial, digital, and programmable robot named "The Unimate."  This robot was used to lift pieces of hot metal at the Ewing Township General Motors plant.  Nowadays, there are robots even at our home!  Gadgets such as vacuum cleaners and washing machines are examples of robots that help us and eased our activities.  There are numerous fields in which robots can be extremely useful, save us time and prevent us from accidents.  But, the question is, will robots replace humans some day?

One of the fields in which robots have helped us is space exploration.  These robots are sent to investigate and bring information about their destinations.  NASA states that robots as opposed to humans are cheaper to be sent to space.  Another good aspect is that explorations are nothing to worry about since the safety of the robots is not compromised thanks to their abilities and resistance to difficult weather conditions.  One example of these robots is BRUIE, the Buoyant Rover for Under-Ice Exploration.  It can float in the water and roll its wheels along the underside of an icy surface, all while taking pictures and collecting data.

Another field that has been benefited from the existence of robots is healthcare.  Emerging in the 1980s, the first robots in the medical field offered surgical assistance via robotic arm technologies.  Over the years, artificial intelligence (AI), has enabled computer vision and data has transformed health care robots, expanding capabilities into other areas of medicine.  Health robotics have opened the gate for high level patient care, efficient processes in clinical settings, a safer environment for both patients and health care workers.  The most commonly known surgical robot is the da Vinci Surgical System, which magnifies 3D high-definition vision system and tiny instruments that bend and rotate in ways human hands could never.  The surgeon is in control 100% of the time; this helps to carry out more precise operations than previously thought possible.

Surgeons, astronauts, industries, and other fields can argue that robots may not be perfect, but they have certainly eased our tasks, kept us safe, and saved us a lot of money.  There are certain fields, however, in which robots may be no substitute for humans, but for now we should take advantage of all the benefits robots bring with them.

The Different Species of Robots

We live in a digital era, where new gadgets and devices are being launched every day.  Each morning there’s a new phone, a new TV, a new car, and even, a new replacement for us.  Robots have existed for a long time, even if you don’t notice them, they are there.  They go from security cameras to vacuums, to humanoids.  Robots are used in almost every single industry.  They can perform surgery, they can build skyscrapers, and even save lives after a disaster.  But they are also classified in different categories, they all belong to different kinds of “species”.

Industrial robots consist of machines design to perform repetitive tasks.  They facilitate dangerous jobs in factories and can work alongside humans.  Industrial robots are automated, programmable, and capable of movement on three or more axes.  One example is the Unimate, considered the grandfather of all factory robots.  It was the first industrial robot and it worked at General Motor’s assembly line.  It was developed by George Devol during the 1950s and patented in 1961.  It was estimated that in 2020 there were 1.64 million operating industrial robots worldwide according to the IFR

Medical robots are another kind of robot that has become extremely useful. Medical and health-care robots include systems such as bionic prostheses and robotic exoskeletons, or the da Vinci robot, is a system that helps perform minimally invasive surgery.  Or the Endoscopy-Bot, they are used to look for damage or foreign objects in the body, and there’s also the Orthoses, an exoskeleton that helps correct malformations or helps patients that are going through rehabilitation.

One of the most intriguing kinds, in my opinion, is humanoids.  This is what most of us think when we think of robots.  They specifically designed to look like people, one example is Sophia, a creation of Dr. David Hanson, who is the creator of Hanson Robotics.  Sophia has appeared in TV shows like Ellen, and magazines such as Cosmopolitan.  Junko Chihira is another example of a world-famous humanoid.  She is described as a trilingual android, that is being developed by Toshiba.  Junko mostly works at a touring information center in Tokyo, greeting visitors from all around the world.  Robots have been around for a long time now, and I don’t they will go soon, so we better get along with them

ROBOTS AND HUMANS

As technology advances more and more everyday, it is more common to see robots and humans working side by side.  Write a classification essay to answer the following question:

Can robots replace human beings in all activities?

Give reasons and examples in your response.

A SPECIAL GIFT

When it comes to family all of us cherish different people. Some may consider family to be the people we chose as friends other may be fond of those with an actual blood relationship. To me family is anyone who is loyal to me a person who understand me and has been there all along through thick and thin, most of the time these people are my nuclear family.

My family starts with my mom, she is my whole family. The person I turn to for anything and I value and love her the most among all people. I am an only child, I never got to have the experience of having a little brother nor a little cousin it was always just me. From my dad´s side I had 2 older cousins but since they lived in Guatemala and I lived in the US at the time  it was close to impossible seeing them often, so I consider I did have cousins at all. Until 5 years ago when my aunt started to have babies.

When it comes to aunts and uncles I have quite a few. Starting with my aunt Sandra she is the aunt everyone wants; she is always taking me out to places and buying me things. She is truly very special for me. Next is my uncle he is married but doesn’t have kids yet, he lives in Sanarate. My other aunt is also married and has two beautiful baby girls, my little cousins Nicole and Valentina.

I cannot imagine living my life without my family by my side. Family is very important and valuable to me and is something that should never be taken for granted. Without my family, a large part of my life and culture would be missing.

Whether it's my grandparent, my two cousins, my mom, or my dad, I know I can always count on someone to help me feel better. In fact, I think that this is probably the most important thing that my family has taught me; a family is made up of people who you can trust and who you can count on. Too many times today, we read in the papers about families where parents abuse their children, verbally and physically. What these parents don't realize is that they are either beginning or involving themselves in a vicious circle of hate in families. When parents abuse their children, they are telling their children that that is the way to raise children, and this is what their children learn. I was lucky, I have learned differently, because my family cares about me, and I care about them.

Unexpected destiny

My beautiful mother, Silvia Sepúlveda, was born in the city in where she had to endure a lot of hardships during her childhood, as she didn´t have responsible parents, she then decided to go her way, if there was something that she wanted then will make the impossible to achieve even if anyone disagreed.  A woman with courage but with a precious heart, she then decided to make the decision to leave behind the things that put a weight in her heart, she left her house, which couldn’t be called home as she didn´t have any peace living there. As the time has passed, she always had problems with self-esteem issues and this is something that has sabotaged her relationships, but she is confident that even though she makes mistakes, it is just room for improvement.

And Independent and brave woman took the decision to get a job in a bank as no one will support her, who could have known that she will meet her love of her life a year later?  He was called Arturo, my dear father, before coming at the city, he lived in Chicacao, with his family but the sudden death of her father and a year later his mother.  He then decided to leave in search of opportunities, he had a job but as he was not growing professionally, he left.  That´s when he met my mother, first as friends and later as lovers. After dating several months, they decided to marry 2 years later, and they did. And subsequently they had three children, two girls and one boy.

I can say that the story has not ended yet and I am happy to see the day that they do no have to worry about us at all, leave their job and rest peacefully.  I pray for their well-being and happiness.

From North to South

From meeting in a coffee shop to bumping into each other in a concert, people get to know the person which whom, eventually, they will create a family. All families have their history and most of them have a particular way of being formed; mine isn't an exception. From North to South, fate brought my parents together and gave them the opportunity to bring to life what is our family today.

Since the very beginning of my family's history, my family has been characterized to be created in such unique means that one must think that it was definitely God's will what brought the couples in it, together. Three clear examples are my grandparents and parents. My mom's father lived in Puerto Barrios and her mom lived in Chiquimula. Destiny made them meet and they had my mom. Right after my grandparents got married, they moved to Puerto Barrios, where she grew up. Same thing happened with my father side of the family. His mom is from Sololá and his dad is from Antigua Guatemala. They met, got married, and had my dad. Happy for the birth of their son, my dad's parents moved to Escuintla, where my dad grew up.

After my mom and dad had lived their childhood in completely different places, each one decided to come to the city to have better opportunities and study at college. Without a clue that they would find their "other half", they started their studies at college. My mom was studying medicine and my dad was in laws. They met thanks to friends they had in common and started to hang out more often.

After a year or so, my mom changed her career because she found laws more exciting. My parents then got to spend even more time together. One day, they found out my mom was pregnant. Excited with the news, they moved to a guest house together and, two years later, they found the perfect home for me to grow up.  After my birth, my mom stayed at home for two years, taking care of me. Once my parents were okay with leaving me with a nanny, my mom got a job and finished law school.

Ten years passed by since I was born and one April afternoon my mom found out she was pregnant again. More than happy to know this, we waited for my sister until November. Another member in my little family. Time has passed by and my family has stayed the same until this day.

Twists and turns are included, for sure, in my family's history, but what if not it? It has been one of the most interesting love stories I have ever heard of, and, fun fact, I got to know the main characters.

My Family History

My story began many years ago, by different people coming together and creating life.  My great grandparents were Pedro Pedroza, Carmen Carillo, Matías Huertas, and Toribia López, form my dad’s side, and from my mom’s, Margarito, and Lola Ortiz.  And although I never met them, I got to know them through my mom and dad’s stories, through the food they thought them how to cook, and even the jokes they tell today.

My grandma always talks about her parents, she misses them a lot, her dad was a shoemaker, and her mom stayed at home.  She is the second of 10 siblings, and money often was tight, but that never made them sad or angry, they simply adjusted.  They went to school in the morning and in the afternoon, the older kids would help make dinner while the younger ones played.  Although she was born in Patulul, she had to move to the city with her aunt and her uncle at a young age due to different illnesses, so she didn’t see her family much until later in life.

From what I’ve heard from my dad my great grandfather was farmer, and he would sometimes take him on field trips, he remembers running from a cow on several occasions, climbing trees and swimming in the river.  He remembers living in the same house through out all his life.  My mom on the other hand, moved a lot, she had a very different childhood.  She went back to Patulul the day after school ended and wouldn’t come back until the day before it started, those are of her fondest memories, she would take the bus with her grandma, Mama Lola, and when they arrived she got to see all her cousins and getting home late after playing in the park.  As she grew older my grandma remarried, and her life changed a lot, it was better in many ways, but she didn’t get to see her grandma and her family as much, but then my uncle was born and she says she was the happiest and proudest older sister.

After many years, my parents’ paths crossed, and became friends, but it wasn’t until 7 years that they would date.  They went out for a while, but my dad decided to move to the U.S., so they were apart for about five years, but one, he called and decided to get back together and started dating.  One day, he came back to Guatemala without telling anyone, he proposed and she said yes, and they got married in 1998.  Almost five years later they had me, and a year after they had my little brother.  And that is, partly, my story.

 Negative Effects of Technology

                                                             How beneficial is it actually?

Technology is something that helps us and make our work and daily life easier. It is something available everywhere so people can easily use it either in the work place or for personal matters. We search for something when we need it but nowadays, we rely on internet or other developed technologies and there are very few of us who really want to develop something new. It has damaged the interaction and even can become an issue for our health. So is technology advancing actually beneficial to the human being?

Isolation is one of the main problems. Technologies, such as social media, are designed to bring people together, yet they may have the opposite effect in some cases. A study made in 2017 showed  in young adults aged 19–32 years found that people with higher social media use were more than three times as likely to feel socially isolated than those who did not use social media as often.Finding ways to reduce social media use, such as setting time limits for social apps, may help reduce feelings of isolation in some people. Reduced physical activity is considered to be a very worring subject. Most everyday digital technologies are sedentary. More extended use of these technologies promotes a more sedentary lifestyle, which is known to have negative health effects, such as contributing to:

    • obesity
    • cardiovascular deseas
    • type 2 diabetes
    • premature death

Depression and anxiety  can be a very serious part of the use of tecnology  Experts discussed the link between social networks and mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety.Their research found mixed results. People who had more positive interactions and social support on these platforms appeared to have lower levels of depression and anxiety. However, the reverse was also true. People who perceived that they had more negative social interactions online and who were more prone to social comparison experienced higher levels of depression and anxiety. So, while there does appear to be a link between social media and mental health, a significant determining factor is the types of interactions people feel they are having on these platforms. The way many people use mobile devices and computers may also contribute to incorrect posture. Over time, this may lead to musculoskeletal issues. Many technologies promote a “down and forward” user position, meaning the person is hunched forward and looking down at the screen. This can put an unnecessary amount of pressure on the neck and spine.A long 5 year study in the journal Applied Ergonomics found an association between texting on a mobile phone and neck or upper back pain in young adults.

Sleep problems is a very comon factor.Using technology too close to bedtime may cause issues with sleep. This effect has to do with the fact that blue light, such as the light from cell phones, e-readers, and computers, stimulates the brain. Authors of a 2014 study found that this blue light is enough to disturb the body’s natural circadian rhythm. This disturbance could make it harder to fall asleep or lead to a person feeling less alert the next day.To avoid the potential impact of blue light on the brain, people can stop using electronic devices that emit blue light in the hour or two before bedtime.Gentle activities to wind down with instead, such as reading a book, doing gentle stretches, or taking a bath, are alternatives. Finding ways to take breaks from sedentary technologies may help promote a more active lifestyle.

We cannot think about living without technology, because it is everywhere we have learned to depend on it so much that even to cook our food we need technology. It is everywhere, but it is up to us how much we use it and how we can limit its access. In different research it has been found that mobile phones are not good for infants, still, many children play like a toy with mobile phones. One should really think about these things and develop their own ideas to deal with it.

Friend or Enemy

Technology hasn’t stopped and will not stop evolving, and it is because it’s improving lives.  From the medical field to communications, technology has not only made our lives easier, but it also makes education and health more accessible helps start a business and makes international communications a thoughtless process.  I believe that technology is one of the most important inventions, it’s given us phones, laptops, and cars among other things, but it’s also made an entire generation addicted to a black screen, another susceptible to fake news, and another feel the pressure of social media since the womb.  Technology is a double-edged sword.

Although technology has affected my life positively in more than one way, I still believe that prioritizing ease, and temporary needs rather than a healthy mind and genuine relationships it’s the reason we keep going around this vicious circle.  Thinking that having surgery is worth a thousand likes is unbelievable and thinking that reposting a picture of a starving child makes us activists is also a problem.  Technology has made us believe that everything we do matters, and it has made us superficial and materialistic.

For example, when you are eating at a restaurant your first instinct is to take a picture of your food, when you are with your family the first thing you do is post about it.  Everything you do, everything you buy and eat you do it to impress others instead of yourself.  We think that if we do not take a picture of our every move it somehow does not matter.  And this can be dangerous, texting or filming a video while driving, go to dangerous places to get the perfect photo, and spending money you do not have to not feel left out.  It can also affect our productivity, using our phone every moment we are awake is not healthy, wanting to know what is going on in the world 24/7 is an addiction, some people can’t even go to the bathroom without theirs.

I believe that technology has benefited us in immeasurable ways, but it has also left us with this sense of emptiness, we do not feel complete unless we always have a square in our pocket, we took something beneficial and helpful and turned it into to something harmful and addicting.  And I am afraid we have crossed the point where we cannot go back.

Technology Progress: Positive or Negative?

 Technology Progress: Positive or Negative?

Technology has taken the lead in everything we do, how do we act, etc.  That sometimes we do not notice how much time we spend on it every day.  As I was thinking it is amazing and unimaginable to think what they did before technology.

One of the main reasons I have to really point out, is that it has changed how we communicate letters to a device at the size of our hand, on which we don´t need to travel to another country or state to deliver our message. This sure is effective and faster than before. Moreover, it can turn into addiction, as some people has experienced that without noticing we spend the whole day in this.

I can say I agree to the development that is having science and technology every year without limits, the idea of mixing both of them to the help of humanity is amazing, how we can take example from animals, and ask ourselves how do they manage to live during harsh environments. We can apply it to our hospitals, schools, etc. On the other side, as technology is not really that affordable to anyone just yet. Does this mean that this is only useful to medium and high class?

Nevertheless, the way structures are constructed has been changing overtime, as we discover materials that are more resistant to water, earthquakes, floods, etc. It is less likely to have casualties. But we see the day that everyone can afford these materials and to make the world a better place.

I strongly agree with the advances that are being discovered by geniuses every day, whose search for the wellbeing of all people around the world. Solving problems like water-wasting, desertification, climate change, erosion etc.  As we all want a bright future for the newest generations that are yet to come.

Side Effects of Technological Progress

Thirty years ago, people barely knew what a computer or internet was.  A decade ago, society wasn’t able to travel by plane to whatever place in Earth they wanted or order food from their favourite restaurant from their couch.  The past ten years have brought with them huge technological devices and practical gadgets that have made our life easier and have marked the progress of society as we know it today.  Nevertheless, there is little to non-investigation on the results that all technological progress may have in us in the long term.  Innovations such as GMO’s and cell phones may harm our health in the years to come.

Most packaged foods contain ingredient derived from corn, soy, canola, and sugar beet.  It has been reported that the vast majority of those crops are genetically modified.  Genetically modified organisms (GMO’s) pose a serious threat to farmer sovereignty and the national food security of any country where they are grown.  It is widely recognized that these substances are being used to artificially develop different traits in plants, such as resistance to browning in apples.  However, in March 2015, the World Health Organization (WHO) determined that the herbicide glyphosate, the key ingredient in most GMO’s, is probably carcinogenic to humans.

Cell phones are another proof of technological progress that is not necessarily beneficial.  When it comes to women’s and men’s health, Portland physicians are increasingly seeing patients who exhibit signs of technology overuse, particularly with the reliance on smartphones in our day-to-day lives.  It has been shown that Americans spend nearly 12 hours a day looking at multiple digital screens.  As a result, people suffer form digital eye strain, due to the long periods of time they spend gazed at the screens; sleep disorders, because of the heavy cell phone usage; and physical inactivity, as a result of excessive time using computers, playing videogames, and watching TV.  Sadly, all these illnesses can be permanent if people don’t learn how to control the usage of technology.

Therefore, I strongly agree with the thought that not all technological progress is positive.  In the years to  come, technology will continue developing new ways of easing our lives, which can bring with them more means to damage our health without our consent or us noticing the damage.

Alarming decrease of animals species  around the world

It is evident that throughout the years we have seen less animals than before, some may ignore this, but the truth is that animals are going extinct. We must begin to work for the preservation. If we can´t care about them and protect them then will we able to keep living on the earth?

The World Animal Foundation estimates that by 2025 as many as one-fifth of all animal species may well have become extinct.  More precisely, according to National Geographic about 28,000 species of animals and plants are threatened, but the more alarming is that only 106,000 species of animals were assed of more than 1.5 million so,  until when will we continue to choose to ignore this big problem?

Humans are believed to be independent and powerful when in reality we depend on earth and its resources. There is no self-awareness onto the fact that when all of it becomes a dead-zone,  not even us will be able to live in.

I ask you again, will you like a world where the future generations suffer the consequences of all our present decisions?

A not so far future

Imagine going out into the wild in 1950 and now.  There are differences, aren't they?  This can be explained with the research and studies of the World Animal Foundation.  According to this entity, over 900 plants and animals are endangered and about 20 percent of the species of animals we know today will disappear by 2025.  Animal extinction is not just an alarming matter, it also is a signal that human activity is influencing it.

Taking action to stop this from happening is key, because changes such as this one should not be occurring.  Earth is inhabited by thousand of living individuals and species.  We all have an  specific way of living and, as an instinct, we interact with each other.  Animals, as living beings, are part of our environment and our surroundings.  Even when we don't notice it, they are a crucial part of society itself.  Unfortunately, due to mediocre human practices, animals have been becoming extinct.

Some may consider this phenomenon the evolution of our world, as it happened during the dinosaurs or the ice age.  Nevertheless, the figure of animals that will have disappeared by 2025 if we don't start using the rule of the three R's, reducing the use of plastic and non-biodegradable material, and educating ourselves about the suffering we are causing to these creatures and how to start avoiding it, animals won't be the only beings to be affected.

Endangered animals are in that state because of the actions we have taken through the years.  Species such as the Black Rhino, the Amur Leopard, and the Orangutan are just some of the beautiful animals with whom we won't be able to live anymore, admire, and take care of if we don't start taking action today to change the prediction of the WAF.

Animal Extinction: Does it matter?

In 2019 it was reported by the UN that nature is declining at unprecedented speed.  The number of extinct species is alarming, just in the last 10 years animals like the Mauritius turtle-dove and the Pinta Island tortoise have disappeared, and with them 160 more.  We may have not heard about most of them because they are so rare and out of our sight, but that does not mean they aren’t important.  Every single one of them had a function, a purpose, and without them, the balance is lost. So, the question we should ask ourselves is, are they worth saving? Does it matter?  Of course, they are because if these “insignificant” species go extinct, eventually, we will too.

The World Animal Foundation estimates that by 2025 approximately one-fifth of all animal species may go extinct.   Some of the reasons listed as causes for this problem are pollution, invasive species, climate change, and overpopulation.  Some of them can be controlled and even reversed, but we need to work together to do so.  A solution to the pollution can be living a zero-waste life, but that’s not sustainable for many of us, so we can recycle as much as we can, commute whenever we need to travel, and not be wasteful of our resources.

Another major cause for extinction is invasive species.  They flee the natural habitats because we destroy them, we build and create new habitats for ourselves and in the process destroy theirs.  Some examples of invasive species are Asian Carp, Zebra Mussel, Cane Toad, and the Northern Pacific sea star.  These species reproduce outside of their natural habitats at an incredibly fast pace, causing chaos and destruction, harming the animals that live there.  The only thing we can do to prevent this is to stop destroying their homes and help them find new ones where they won´t harm other animals.

A solution that would benefit not only endangered species but also the environment is the help of big corporations.  Capitalism has put the weight on us as individuals to take care of the planet, but even if we all did, the factories and big warehouses would still be doing most of the damage.  That is why they need to come with solutions and ideas to reduce pollution, waste, and all the damage they cause to the environment.  And we, as consumers, need to put pressure on them so will do what is right and help us all in the long run.  Because if we keep doing what we are doing, we won´t have an earth to call home.  “The Report also tells us that it is not too late to make a difference, but only if we start now at every level from local to global,” he said. “Through ‘transformative change’, nature can still be conserved, restored, and used sustainably – this is also key to meeting most other global goals. By transformative change, we mean a fundamental, system-wide reorganization across technological, economic and social factors, including paradigms, goals, and values.”  (UN Sustainable Development Goals, 2019).

After reviewing the information, I firmly believe we should all work towards saving the endangered species, we should all put our efforts into making this a better world for all living creature, and we should all realize that if are capable to care about innocent animals what’s stopping to not care about us, as humans. We still have time to act and to care, to stop the otherwise inevitable.  Reflect on your future and present actions and if you think the little actions towards change don’t count, trust me, they do.
